FAQ's & GENERAL INFORMATION

Should I top my tree? Topping out trees are sometimes not needed. Common reason for topping a tree is to reduce interference with something else such as a power line.

When should I decide to cut down my tree? You decision may be based on simple need at the time. We will work with your decision or emergency need.

What is Deadwooding? Deadwood is the removal of dead or dyeing limbs and branches. Deadwood is extremely dangerous for several reasons and ccan be a serious threat to you home, out buildings, fences and neighbors property. The most obvious reason to remove deadwood is to prevent injury to you and others.

Should I feed my trees? Yes, they may be quite hungry, if not starving.

Trees can be fertilized two different times of the year. A tree may be getting adequate nutrients from the soil already, but it may benefit from additional fertilizer to keep it growing at its best. A healthy, vigorous tree is much less susceptible to attacks from disease, insects, and other stresses.

The recent ice storm shows the difference between healthy and stressed trees. We lost many street trees to ice damage-- trees stressed by many factors including inadequate fertility.

What are some of the trees that bloom and grow well in our area? You may want to add a Redbud. They are the first to bloom in the springtime. Another tree that blooms all summer is the choice of a Crape Myrtle. They are easy to grow & drought tolerant. If you are looking for white blooms try Dogwood, Cherry or a Cleveland Pear.

How do I tell if my tree has a disease? A few clues may be the loss of leaves during the spring and summer season. Some leaves may have black spots on them. You may notice that some branches are dead when they were not last year. Call us and we will inspect your tree for you. It is best to take action now before more of the tree is damaged and you have a total loss.

Lighting struck our tree what should we do? Call us to inspect the damage that was created by the strike. Most often a combination of water management, bark repair, pruning, fertilization, pest management will aid in the health of the tree if it wasn't extensively damaged. Otherwise, when it becomes obvious that the tree will not recover from the strike, the tree should be removed so that property and personal injury will not occur.
